MEXICO: Torta Ahogada!

Torta ahogada...the long awaited for! Pronunciation is the key, (ah-oh-GAH-dah)! This sandwich originated in Guadalajara, (well, not this sandwich in particular, ...it would be filthy, and old, and disgusting, which it isn't). And I'm only an hour away, soo ... why the heck not? It's wonderfully messy!

Your choices include carnitas (pork leg or butt), buche (pork stomach) or lengua (beef tongue), stuffed in a hard Italian-type roll called birote Salado. Tomato, chile de árbol, and spices, is then poured over the sandwich until it drowns before your very eyes. But don't worry, it hasn't died, it has come alive! Ahogar means “to drown” in Spanish.
